Giro 2011 stage 19
Today's Giro stage starts in the town of Bergamo just east of Milan. I got a chance to see cycling's superstars plus a Team Movistar Pinarello was on hand equipped with Campagnolo's yet to be released electronic groupset. But first a disclaimer. As I'm travelling and relatively new to posting while away, most photos and videos are from my camera retaken on my android phone so I can post to Cyclespokes. [UPDATE: have reuploaded original photos now] Next time I shall be prepared
Early photos from a cyclingnews story mentioned the size of the battery unit on Campag's group but seeing in real life reaffirms that view.
One final word for those diehard roadies that insist on only gels for nutrition. Spot what Dave Millar packs in his jersey pockets. No it ain't a yellow cucumber.

Milan Giro mania
Well hello world, I've arrived at Milan in preparation for the final stage at the Giro d'italia 2011, the time trial.
If you are around Milan this week you can visit the Museo Del Novecento which houses this years Giro trophy. It's located on Via Marconi off the Piazza Duomo. For those that can't make it, here's a photo.
Originally the final stage on the 29th was meant to be starting from the Castello Sorzesco however the Milanese police force was stretched too thin to also cater for the city elections. I decided to visit the Castello and also found the Giro's favourite drink.

Tomorrow's stage starts from Bergamo, that's a €4.70 trip from stazione centrale so I'll keep you posted on how that turns out.

Short distances and few climbs in chasing legends
Welcome to the first blog post of CycleSpokes. You may be wondering what is the point of this blog in the midst of so many other cycling blogs around. Take some time to read around and i'm sure this will grow with the cycling community. Similar to how you would train for a big ride, start with small distances and few challenging hill climbs; this blog will grow with small updates over time until we're dropping cattle on Tourmalet.
First off, starting with something that's current and relevant is always a bright idea. For those of you in the UK, BBC has a tv program called "British Dreams" following a few 2012 Olympic hopefuls. Episode 3 aired Saturday 14th May including a short interview with the Manx Missile, Mark Cavendish from HTC Highroad. For those just wanting to hear from Cavendish, skip 00:21:20 into the video
If you are into cycling, twitter is a great tool to follow many PRO cyclists. Another figure to follow is super commentator Phil Liggett. I was lucky enough to be in England when Phil was showing "Chasing Legends", the film revolving around star sprinter Mark Cavendish during the 2009 Tour de France.
Without ruining too much of the plot, the movie centres around all the characters in the HTC Columbia (now HTC Highroad) team supporting Mark. You can find the trailer and purchase the DVD here.
The film was shown at The Woodman in Wildhill, North London. First impressions of the place is that its very much a local pub where everyone knows each other. Not being a local, everyone had welcomed me with kind generosity. Looking for a great pub, talk to Graham at The Woodman

Wild hill is located in Hertfordshire, also worth visiting is nearby Hatfield House. HH's claim to fame was the residence of Queen Elizabeth I before she became queen. It has also been used for filming of Saving Private Ryan, Tomb Raider and Antiques Roadshow.
